Mac Envy
01 Jun 2000 08:00 EST

From the Go2Mac mailbag comes this pointer from Oscar Punla. It seems that the industrial design introduced by the Macintosh blue & white has some PC users green with envy.

I admit it. I have "Mac envy." The Apple Power Macs have a very cool case where the motherboard back plane actually hinges outward and lies flat. In the "do it yourself" PC world, cases are all too often the oh so bland beige metal boxes. This situation is so chronic that reviewers are left musing about the shape of the power button or the placement of the LED's on the faceplate.

For DIYers and especially reviewers like myself, having a case that houses the drives, power supply, etc., while exposing the motherboard as in the nifty design from Apple, is almost the Holy Grail of computer cases.

The article points out that the new Nikao Submarine computer cases from Tradex Information Technology sport a similar design and those popular translucent plastics.

And if you need to "Mac out" your peripherals, there's always the translucent keyboard, speaker, and mouse offerings.
