Prototype & Design

Let’s face it, few of us work or play for more than six hours continuously, without a break of some kind. What this means is that with more than six hours of battery life each time you recharge it, you can knock yourself out being productive—or having fun—on your iBook. And there’s no charge to recharge: the battery swiftly reenergizes itself when you plug your iBook into a power outlet.

The iBook even tells you how it’s doing: the integrated power input plug stays amber when the battery is charging, and turns green when it’s fully charged. So you can tell at a glance when your iBook is ready to go. And with the new sleep indicator beacon light, you can even tell whether your iBook is asleep or has been turned off.

Blazing speed, dazzling design, and fast, easy access to the Internet. Those features made the world fall in love with iMac—and now they’re available for the first time in a notebook computer. Introducing iBook, the iMac to go.

The first thing you’ll notice about iBook is its enticing design and incredible attention to detail. You can get iBook in two delectable translucent colors, both featuring a stunning shape that’s sure to attract attention. Try the convenient foldaway handle to find out for yourself how easy it is to take iBook wherever you go. Then turn on the computer and enjoy the brilliance of its 12.1-inch TFT active-matrix color display.

A great outside is only the beginning. Inside, iBook is brimming with powerful features, starting with a 300-megahertz PowerPC G3 processor. It also features a built-in CD-ROM drive, a 3.2- gigabyte hard disk drive, and a high-performance ATI RAGE Mobility graphics accelerator. iBook was born to travel, with up to 6 hours between charges to its lithium-ion battery— perfect for a full day in class or on the road. And notice that iBook has no doors or latches on the edges that could get caught and damaged when you’re carrying it around in your backpack or car.

Want to start exploring the Internet right away? It couldn’t be easier, because iBook has all the hardware and software you need, including a built-in 56-kilobit-per-second modem and 10/100BASE-T Ethernet port.*

Or set yourself free from network cables and phone cords entirely with the optional AirPort wireless networking card. AirPort gives you a simple, affordable way to bring the Internet to every room in your home or every desk in your classroom—at up to 11 megabits per second. Just install the card and connect to an AirPort wireless network. Then start surfing from your couch, your backyard deck, a shady lawn outside your dorm, or anywhere else up to 150 feet from an AirPort Hardware Access Point. AirPort also lets multiple computers share a single Internet connection simultaneously without expensive additional ISP accounts, telephone lines, or messy cabling.

For Internet software, you get Microsoft Internet Explorer, Netscape Communicator, America Online, and EarthLink TotalAccess. We’ve even included a free 30-day EarthLink trial offer to get you on the Internet within minutes of starting up the computer. iBook also comes with a host of other useful applications.

Now all these powerful features come in a notebook computer that’s as easy on your pocketbook as it is to use. iBook: It’s iMac to go.
