Toshiba launches Character Phone "TEGACKY"

Toshiba announced on January 21, 1999 that it will launch an exclusive touch-pen entry type PHS phone "TEGACKY" model PM-T101 on February 18.

This will be the first terminal product applicable for the new character & image service available through the DDI Group starting next month. Mail traffic has been rapidly increasing since its introduction, and is already approximately 40% of the DDI Group's total PHS traffic.

The DDI Group responded to the demands of the growing number of users who are looking to use a user friendly mail- tool. This new product which enables users to use P-Mail and P-Mail Deluxe (DX), is conveniently equipped with a Touch-Pen entry feature for composing freehand-written messages, and a large, easy to view LCD display.

Main Features and Specifications are as follows.

  1. Full support of the DDI Group's new character & image service.
  2. 12 characters x 4 lines large-size LCD
  3. Automatic cache memory function for P-Mail (DX) communication
  4. Large memory capacity (As for P-Mail (DX), up to 1000 incoming + outgoing information can be saved.)
  5. Repertory memory for cataloguing not only by name & telephone number but also by address, birthday, blood type, mailing address etc. for up to 200 persons.
  6. Weekly scheduling icon for a total of up to 6 weeks.
  7. Enhanced Man-Machine Interface (MMI) through the adoption of Icons and the Seesaw Switch.
