Prototype & Design

A new device from AlphaGrip posesses a patented text input solution that the company claims enables you to type 50 words per minute or more, on all kinds of devices and from anywhere you might be.

At first sight, the AlphaGrip reminds you of an oversized video game controller, but after a closer look it turns out to be much more. So much more in fact, that you easily could get confused. At the core of the device lies its patented text input method which the company that makes the device claims should enable you to type 50 words per minute or more, and they also claim you will be able to use it while sitting in a recliner, laying in bed, riding in a car, standing, or walking around.

The technology behind AlphaGrip is also claimed to be device agnostic, in the sense that it can be used in any device that requires text entry, from cell phones to handhelds, ordinary computers and interactive TV. Currently, AlphaGrip has 4 patents that secures the company's technology so that nobody else can get their hands on it.

To use the device, one simply picks it up with both hands and handles it like an ordinary video game controller. The fingers should according to AlphaGrip place themselves in a fashion that is natural, and from there you'll quickly learn to use the device. Seen as how an ordinary keyboard is awkward to use for long periods of time and when you don't have any flat surfaces to support it nearby, AlphaGrip could be a major step forward.

However, several manufacturers have tried making keyboard alternatives in the past, but none have succeeded - a good indication as to how we've grown used to our keyboards and continue to use them even if there are better alternatives around. Whether AlphaGrip can make it is yet to be proved, but from what the company claims and what can be interpreted from pictures of the device this could be a promising attempt.

AlphaGrip will debut its technology during the KeyNote Address at the eDevCon in New Orleans December 7th and participate in a panel entitled "The Bleeding Edge of Wirelesss."
